Death by misadventure. Auto-erotic asphyxiation…
… might read Dr. Sharma’s cause of death.
After an unfortunate allergic reaction, Dr. Dev Sharma is suffocating to death. In Katie’s bed, the thirty-eight-year-old of Mauritian descent struggles wildly against his predicament.
As if this unexpected turn of events isn’t enough, Dev’s mind is taking him on a fantastic journey. A bizarre and surreal trip through the landscape of an imagination out of control.
Oh, and one of his imaginings, The Gifter, is holding him hostage. Why? So Dev can pinball through memories, funny, playful and poignant.
Dev careers through a devastating childhood event, taking him from England around the world. As a teenage outsider, he observes and analyses those around him.
As a doctor, his interest in thoughts simmers. But after a shattering family secret is revealed, his urge to understand compulsions drives him to places he never imagined.
Together Dev and The Gifter unravel the mystery of how he comes to be dying, face down in friend Katie’s hideous floral bedsheet.
All the while, his eccentric imagination sparks tangents and diversions in this dark yet life-affirming psychological drama laced with black comedy.
